Director's Bay

About

Director's Bay is a small, quiet beach in the Caracas Bay area on Curaçao's southeastern coast, named after the Shell Oil directors who once used this spot as their private retreat. This secluded beach offers excellent shore diving and snorkeling, with a healthy reef accessible directly from the rocky entry. Underwater, divers can still find the remains of an old shark cage, a relic from the bay's industrial past. The water is clear and deep, attracting a variety of marine life including moray eels, barracuda, and colorful reef fish. The beach itself is small and composed of a mix of sand and pebbles, with minimal facilities — there are no beach clubs, loungers, or food vendors. A small parking area is available, and access is free. Director's Bay is popular with serious divers and snorkelers who appreciate the quiet atmosphere and excellent underwater conditions. The rocky entry means water shoes are recommended. The beach is about a 15-minute drive east of Willemstad and can be combined with visits to the nearby Tugboat wreck site and Fort Beekenburg.
