About

The odd colonial home Groot Davelaar was built around 1865 by the revolutionary Venezuelan refugee Guzman Blanco, who later became the president of Venezuela. The plantation Groot (big) Davelaar was actually a small area and has never been profitable. The colonial home is a remarkable mixture of Curaçao style and influences from the Renaissance. The eight-sided hall is surrounded by a gallery from which the view over about ten other colonial homes in the surroundings is magnificent.
