Playa Porto Marie, also known as Playa Mari, is one of the most popular and well-equipped beaches on Curaçao's western coast, located in the Banda Abao region about 35 minutes from Willemstad. This beautiful white-sand beach is famous for its unique double reef system — a shallow reef close to shore and a second deeper reef further out — making it one of the best snorkeling and diving destinations on the island. The double reef creates two distinct underwater zones, each with its own ecosystem of coral formations, tropical fish, sea turtles, and occasionally octopus and moray eels. Snorkelers can explore the first reef in just 3–5 meters of water, while divers can swim through the sandy channel between the two reefs to reach the second reef at 15–20 meters depth. Playa Porto Marie offers full facilities including a highly-rated beach bar and restaurant, beach chair and umbrella rentals, restrooms, showers, and a dive shop. The beach is known for its friendly beach pigs that sometimes wander the sand, adding a charming and unique touch to the experience. Entrance fee is approximately 10 ANG per person, which includes access to all facilities. The beach has ample parking and is easily accessible via paved roads. Playa Porto Marie is ideal for families, couples, and both beginner and experienced snorkelers who want a comfortable beach day with world-class underwater exploration. The beach bar is particularly popular for its fish sandwiches and cold drinks, perfect after a long snorkel session. Playa Porto Marie can be combined with nearby beaches like Cas Abao, Daaibooi, and the flamingo observation tower at Sint Willibrordus for a full day of western coast exploration.
