Ask me anything about Flamingo Habitat.
The Flamingo Habitat at Sint Michiel Bay is one of the best places in Curaçao to observe wild flamingos up close. From Willemstad, visitors follow the road toward Bullen Bay, and upon reaching a large salt pan, they arrive at St. Michael's Bay — where the highest concentration of flamingos on the island can be found. The shallow salt flats provide the ideal feeding environment for these iconic pink birds, which gather here year-round to feed on brine shrimp and algae. Unlike some flamingo viewing spots where the birds are distant, at St. Michael's Bay visitors can get remarkably close to the flamingos, making it an excellent location for photography and wildlife observation. The best times to visit are early morning and late afternoon when the flamingos are most active and the lighting is ideal for photography. Access is free and the area is easily accessible by car. There are no facilities on-site, so visitors should bring water and sun protection. The Flamingo Habitat can be combined with visits to nearby beaches including Boka Sami, Kokomo Beach, and Blue Bay, as well as the Rif Mangrove Park, for a full day of nature exploration on Curaçao's western coast. This is one of the most rewarding and accessible wildlife experiences on the island.
