Landhuis Blauw is a historic colonial plantation house located at what is now the Blue Bay Golf & Beach Resort, founded around 1700 by Anno Blauw, who gave the plantation both his name and a lasting legacy on the island. Although Blauw stayed on Curaçao only for a short time, his name remains very much alive in the plantation and the surrounding area. The plantation was historically significant for the production of blue dye, one of the valuable commodities cultivated on colonial Curaçao. In an old barn near the colonial house, bags full of dark blue powder — indigo blue — were once discovered, providing tangible evidence of the plantation's dye-producing past. The bin, known as "baki'i blows" according to local legend, has unfortunately disappeared over time. According to old Curaçaoan tales, the color blue, particularly indigo, was believed to have special powers to keep evil spirits away, adding a layer of cultural folklore to the plantation's history. Today, the historic Plantation Blauw has been transformed into the beautiful Blue Bay Golf & Beach Resort, one of the most upscale resort developments on the island. The resort features an 18-hole golf course, a swimming pool, a pristine beach, a children's playground, a dive operator, and sea kayak rentals, all built around and incorporating the historic plantation house. The adaptation of this colonial estate into a modern luxury resort represents one of the most ambitious heritage reuse projects on Curaçao, preserving the historic house while creating a world-class destination around it. Landhuis Blauw is located at Blue Bay, about 15 minutes west of Willemstad, and can be visited as part of a day pass to the Blue Bay Beach Club. The combination of colonial history, resort amenities, and beautiful coastal scenery makes Landhuis Blauw a unique destination where Curaçao's past and present converge.
