Watamula Blowhole

The Watamula Blowhole is a dramatic natural formation on the rugged northwestern tip of Curaçao, where ocean water erupts 10–15 meters into the air through a narrow rock fissure when the north swells hit the coastline. This remote and powerful natural attraction is located at the very tip of the island past Westpunt, where the road becomes rough and the landscape turns wild and untamed. The blowhole is created by the force of Atlantic waves pushing water through underground volcanic rock tunnels, creating spectacular water explosions that can be seen and heard from a distance. The best time to visit is during high tide with strong northerly swell, when the eruptions are at their most dramatic. Visitors should stand back from the blowhole, as the spray can be powerful and the rocks are wet and slippery. Sturdy non-slip shoes are essential. The Watamula area is virtually untouched by tourism, offering a raw and authentic natural experience. The surrounding landscape of cactus, wind-bent divi-divi trees, and crashing waves creates a dramatic and otherworldly setting. Watamula can be combined with visits to Shete Boka National Park, Playa Guepi, and the westernmost beaches for a full north coast adventure. The area has no facilities, so visitors should bring water and sun protection. This is one of Curaçao's most impressive natural phenomena and a must-see for nature photographers.
