Westpunt

Westpunt is the most remote and unspoiled region of Curaçao, occupying the island's rugged northwestern corner where dramatic limestone cliffs, hidden coves and crystal-clear Caribbean waters create some of the most spectacular scenery in the southern Caribbean. Far removed from the resort districts surrounding Willemstad, this region offers a slower pace of life and a glimpse into the authentic character of Curaçao.

The area is home to many of the island's most famous beaches, including Playa Kalki, Playa Grandi, Grote Knip and Kleine Knip. These beaches consistently rank among the best in the Caribbean thanks to their turquoise water, excellent visibility and vibrant coral reefs located just offshore. Sea turtles are commonly seen feeding in the shallow waters around Playa Grandi, making it one of the easiest places on the island to encounter marine wildlife.

Westpunt also serves as the gateway to Christoffel National Park and Shete Boka National Park, two of Curaçao's most important protected areas. Hiking trails wind through cactus-covered hills, former plantation lands and dry tropical forests that support native wildlife including white-tailed deer, Curaçao parakeets and dozens of bird species.

Diving and snorkeling are world-class throughout the region. Healthy coral reefs begin just a short swim from shore and are home to sea turtles, rays, octopus and hundreds of tropical fish species. The calm waters on the southern side of the peninsula contrast dramatically with the powerful Atlantic surf that pounds the northern coastline.

Visitors come to Westpunt for its natural beauty, but many leave remembering the atmosphere most of all. Small fishing villages, family-run restaurants and quiet roads create a sense of authenticity that has largely disappeared from more developed Caribbean destinations. Whether exploring hidden beaches, hiking through national parks or watching the sunset from a cliff overlooking the sea, Westpunt represents the wild and untouched side of Curaçao.
